Tabia is a chess vocabulary term: also tabiya. In chess openings a tabia is a key point. It may be a well-known "point of departure" where variations branch off, it may be a position that is reached so often that the real game begins after this initial series of book moves. Use it as vocabulary, but always ask what it changes about the position or the game situation.
