Pieces & Activity
What is a support point in chess?
- Pieces
- Activity
- Coordination
Support point is a piece-play concept: a square that cannot be attacked by a pawn, and that can be occupied as a home base for a piece, usually a knight. Ask whether the piece is active, coordinated, and serving a real plan.
What to look for on the board
- Your least active piece.
- Open lines and strong squares.
- Whether pieces coordinate on the same target.
