Interzonal tournament is a tournament term: a tournament organized by the FIDE starting from the 1950s to 1993. It was the second qualifying cycle of the World Chess Championship. The participants were selected from the top players of the Zonal tournaments. The top-ranking players qualified for the Candidates Tournament. This affects how games are organized, scored, paired, or decided.
