Endgames

What is a endgame tablebase in chess?

  • Endgame
  • Technique
  • Precision

Endgame tablebase is an endgame idea: a computerized database of endgames with a small number of pieces, providing perfect play for both players, and thus completely solving those endgames. As of 2012, tablebases have been calculated for all positions with up to seven pieces. The practical lesson is to connect the term to king activity, pawn races, and whether trades help the result.

What to look for on the board

  • Whose king is more active.
  • Which pawns can promote.
  • Whether trades help or hurt the result.
